Info: Aldactone 100 contains spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist used in the management of conditions associated with fluid retention, excess aldosterone, and certain forms of hypertension. Spironolactone works primarily by blocking aldosterone at mineralocorticoid receptors in the kidneys, promoting the excretion of sodium and water while reducing potassium loss. Its effects on aldosterone activity also contribute to its role in maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance.

Effects

Diuretic Effect: Spironolactone promotes the elimination of excess sodium and water while helping to conserve potassium.

Aldosterone Receptor Blockade: By antagonizing mineralocorticoid receptors, spironolactone reduces the effects of aldosterone on sodium retention and fluid balance.

Dosage Range and Duration of Use

The dosage of spironolactone is individualized according to the clinical indication. For hypertension or edema associated with congestive heart failure or cirrhosis, typical daily doses range from 25 mg to 100 mg once daily, which may be adjusted up to 200 mg to 400 mg daily in severe cases. For conditions such as hyperaldosteronism or severe heart failure, starting doses generally begin at 25 mg to 50 mg daily. Aldactone 100 contains 100 mg per tablet and is taken with or without food according to the prescribed treatment regimen. Treatment duration varies according to the underlying condition and may be short-term or long-term, requiring regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and serum potassium.    

Side Effects

The safety profile of spironolactone has been established in clinical use, although individual reactions may vary. Commonly reported adverse effects include increased potassium levels, dizziness, headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and changes in kidney function. Because spironolactone has antiandrogenic activity, hormonal effects such as breast tenderness or enlargement, menstrual irregularities, and changes in libido may also occur.

Post-Cycle Therapy

Aldactone 100 contains spironolactone and is not an anabolic steroid or testosterone-suppressing anabolic compound. Conventional post-cycle therapy (PCT), as used following anabolic steroid cycles, is therefore not applicable. Spironolactone is a prescription diuretic and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist and should be used according to appropriate medical guidance.
