Femara is a brand name for Letrozone. This oral medication was made primarily for women who have undergone menopause as it helps in killing cells responsible for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer growth. When taken, it inhibits the production aromatase and reduces the quantities of estrogen hormone produced by ovaries hence slowing down or completely stopping the development of estrogen-dependent malignant cells. In addition, Letrozole can also be used off label by encouraging ovulation among females experiencing fertility troubles which usually entails patients who are diagnosed as having polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

The standard dosage is one tablet of 2.5 milligrams taken once daily for up to several years.
