Info: T4 200 from Uni-Pharma contains 200 mcg of levothyroxine sodium per tablet. Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), the primary hormone naturally produced by the thyroid gland. It is used as thyroid hormone replacement therapy, primarily for the treatment of hypothyroidism and other conditions associated with insufficient thyroid hormone production. Levothyroxine helps restore physiological thyroid hormone levels and supports normal metabolic processes throughout the body.

Effects

Levothyroxine replaces or supplements endogenous thyroxine when the thyroid gland does not produce adequate amounts of thyroid hormones. After administration, levothyroxine is converted in peripheral tissues to the more biologically active triiodothyronine (T3), contributing to normal thyroid hormone activity.

Thyroid hormones regulate energy metabolism, oxygen consumption, protein synthesis, thermogenesis, and the normal function of multiple organs and tissues. The therapeutic effects of levothyroxine are generally monitored through clinical assessment and thyroid function tests, particularly serum TSH levels.

Side Effects

Potential adverse effects associated with levothyroxine are generally related to excessive thyroid hormone exposure or an inappropriately high dose. Possible symptoms may include palpitations, increased heart rate, nervousness, anxiety, tremor, insomnia, sweating, heat intolerance, headache, muscle weakness, and changes in body weight.

Dosage Range and Duration of Use

T4 200 contains 200 mcg of levothyroxine sodium per tablet. The full replacement dose for primary hypothyroidism in adults is approximately 1.6 mcg per kilogram of body weight per day (typically 100 mcg to 200 mcg daily), starting at 25 mcg to 50 mcg per day in elderly patients or those with cardiovascular conditions, and titrating by 12.5 mcg to 25 mcg increments every 6 to 8 weeks based on serum TSH monitoring. For off-label metabolism protocols, common experimental ranges are 50 mcg to 100 mcg daily for cycles of 4 to 8 weeks before gradually tapering down. Levothyroxine is taken once daily in the morning on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast.   

Combination with Other Drugs

Levothyroxine may interact with medicines and supplements that affect thyroid hormone absorption, metabolism, or activity. Particular attention may be required when it is taken with calcium or iron supplements, antacids, bile acid sequestrants, and other medicines that can reduce gastrointestinal absorption of levothyroxine.

Levothyroxine may also affect the response to anticoagulants and may interact with other medicines that influence thyroid hormone metabolism or cardiovascular function.
